Spring Riding Programs!

Intermediate campers on a trail ride.

Spring has arrived at RBRC. The snow has melted, the days are longer, and the winter coats are shedding off the horses by the pound! It can only mean one thing: riding season is here!

Except for the hard-core horse nuts who rode religiously through the cold dark winters, this is the time you’ve all been waiting for! Spring riding programs have started at RBRC.

Intermediate and advanced RBRC students can enjoy Riding sessions on Sat, and after school on Mon, Wed, Thurs, and Fri. These 1-1/2 hour sessions include trail rides as well as arena riding, and are open to no more than 5 students per session. $30 per person. RSVP

This year we have a new “Introduction to Horses” class, for beginner youth and adults. This short course is designed to be an affordable way for people to “test the waters” and see if horse interaction is right for them.

If you know anyone who likes horses, but has never gotten a chance to spend time around them, this is a great place to start!

The 1-1/2 to 2 hour class is scheduled for Saturdays in May. See web site calendar for times/dates. $35 per person.

Riding lessons are also available, and we have 2 new riding instructors from outside arriving in May. Both have extensive training/show experience, and are ready to take Rockin’ B students to the next level in Jumping, Dressage and Western disciplines. For students interested in competing in horse shows this summer, our trainers will help RBRC show with confidence!

We also have two new horses, Cookie, and Misty. Come by and meet the new arrivals at one of our Open House events, Sundays in May, from 2pm to 5pm!

Summer Camps are coming soon and are already filling up, so please book early to avoid disappointment, 351-6286.

Since moving to Alaska, Betsy has been an instructor of swimming, sea kayaking & mountaineering on Denali. She is excited to work with horses and riding students again! She will be a sea kayaking guide in Seldovia this summer, then will teach riding lessons at RBRC through the fall, winter and spring. We are very fortunate to have Betsy ready to take over when Rachel and Sharon depart in the fall!

AND…. NEW EQUINE FRIENDS!

Cookies N Cream is an 8 year old Appaloosa/Arabian cross mare, 14.1 hands high. Cookie is white with small dark brown spots all over her body. She is very athletic, responsive to reining and leg cues, and has lots of energy (which she’ll need during the RBRC camp season!)

Misty of Chincoteague is a 10 year old Chincoteague pony mare, 13.2 hands high. Misty is a palomino and white pinto. This little girl has tons of personality, smarts and spunk! She loves to be doted on and ridden by students, also having lots of energy to spare (again, RBRC camps will change that!).

Both Cookie and Misty have spent a lot of time of late being lawn ornaments in the valley, so they are very happy to now have an occupation and a chance to be used to their full potential!
